DVP020 Genesis 37:5 (January 20)

Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.

Joseph was the favoured son of Jacob/Israel, so much so that his father gave him a "coat of many colours". Joseph's brothers hated him for this.

God gave Joseph several prophetic dreams, which said that Joseph (the youngest) would rule over his brothers and even over his parents. Joseph may have been unwise in the way which he presented his dreams to his family, because it caused his brothers to hate him even more.

This difficult situation would soon cause Joseph to end up in Egypt as a slave! Joseph's brothers plotted to kill him but instead were persuaded to sell him into slavery. Yet even in this, God was working to save his people. It was due to a coming famine that would see Jacob and his children moving to Egypt in which Joseph was required to pave the way for them.
