DVP072 Deuteronomy 7:5 (March 13)

But thus shall you deal with them: you shall break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and chop down their Asherim and burn their carved images with fire.

God rarely has a single purpose in mind with his commands for us and in the events which he causes.

A part of his purpose in giving the promised land as an inheritance to Israel was to clean out iniquity from the land. God was angry with the pagan practices and the wickedness of the people there and Israel's conquest was to be a judgement on those people as well as fulfilling the covenant promises to Abraham.

For today, we should take the time to reflect on events in our lives to see if God is communicating something to us. For example, if you are going through a tough time God may be teaching you patience and endurance and to trust him for strength.
