DVP076 Deuteronomy 17:18 (March 17)

"And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests.

This is rather amazing when you think of the effort involved in copying out the book of the law (which was everything in the scriptures up to that point - the first 5 books of the bible at least). The priests would then check it to make sure that every little part was copied correctly.

We can learn from this that:
  1. God wanted the King of Israel to rule with Godly wisdom
  2. God wanted the King to be immersed in the bible to achieve the necessary wisdom
  3. To draw the required detail out of scripture we should take our time and understand all of the smallest elements - leaving out nothing
  4. Again, and again we see the importance of the words from God for every leader of his people. All in authority in the church today should take care not to skim over the details hastily because that is where the full wisdom of God for us resides.
