And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
This is the first part of God's blessing on mankind: He commands us to prosper through having children and through our use of the world around us. Because he has commanded it, he will enable it to happen if we follow his wisdom for our lives.
Notice that the abuse of the world's resources are not a part of this blessing. Unsustainable use of the environment will not lead to lasting fruitfulness. Therefore, unsustainable habits are not a part of this blessing. God expects us to consider the distant future of our world and of our own existence.
