DVP004 Genesis 2:18 (January 4)

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."

It wasn't until Eve was made that God's Creation was complete and, not just "good" but, "very good". Adam was alone and without companionship and help to tend the Garden of Eden. We can take from this a general principle that men and women coming together in marriage is good. God has made it that way and causes marriage partners to cleave to one another in a unique way which is described as being "one flesh".

The nature of a helper is to help what the one being helped cannot do for them self. In this, a woman is not less or more than a man, but she completes him. This equality of worth means the woman is not a slave, but she is still to be under the authority of the one she helps. As God is over mankind, so man is over woman; and of course that is not to say that man is God, just that the final authority in the relationship rests with the man who was made first.
